Those 'other' days

Not long after I started this blog, a good friend at work asked 'does having this blog now make you feel pressure to dress better for work every day?'  Hmmm.  What a great question.  My answer is yes and no.  (This is completely on par with my typical, non-committal responses for just about any other question in life).  Most days I think I do try to represent my blog and why I started this in the first place.  I actually plan what to wear, down to the accessories, and plan to take pictures before work.  I try to wear outfits that are more creative than simply 'meeting' the dress code, and that reflect my style and personality outside of work.

But then there are those other days.  You know those kind of days I'm talking about... the ones where you're doing your best just to get out of bed and get to work at a time that isn't downright professionally unacceptable.  The days when you look at all of your shoes and opt, again, for comfortable flats over your best 4.5 inch platform-yet-still-appropriate-for-work-heels.  The days when you're thinking about how much you have to do once you get to the office, and every minute you spend getting ready takes away from getting those things done at work.  These are rarely blog-worthy outfit days.

Because I've had several of those days lately... I decided to post an outfit from one of them.  Once again, a less glamorous side of me as a fashion blogger.  Truthfully though - while this post won't get as many comments as one when I'm perfectly accessorized, layered, unwrinkled, and wearing the go-to bold lip color of the moment - if I'm being true to myself and why I started this blog, I should post this.  This is just part of who I am.  I LOVE to dress up, but I also love to just be comfortable some days.  Hell, some mornings I just don't have enough brain cells firing to think about what I'm wearing enough to look cute.  I could live in these flats.  I love the fact that this sweater (that was like $15 at AT Loft on sale) feels as comfortable as a sweatshirt.  Also, these are the kind of pants that fit just fine when you put them on in the morning, then are at least one size too big by mid-afternoon (when I took these pics, obviously a baggy mess).  But they're comfortable.

Some days I just choose comfort, especially those other days.

AT Loft sweater; Ann Taylor pants; Tory Burch flats; Michael Kors watch; Posh boutique ring; necklace from Woo Nashville (similar here only $35!); D&G aviators; old earrings

  1. You know what tho? That necklace is awfully cute, and the back button detail on that sweater adds a lot of interest. Not to shabby for an off day! ;-)

  4. I still post my off days! Maybe it's because I don't have enough material to only post my great outfit days. Either way, I agree that the necklace is beautiful and the buttons on that sweater are fab. Not too shabby for one of those other days!

  5. This is such a cute outfit! If this is how you dress on your "off"-days, you've got nothing to worry about!

  6. I love you for your honesty, Sarah! In fact, today I am having a "pajama day" with my son. We decided not to get dressed all day - stay inside, play games & watch movies. Sometimes "those days" are the best! :)

  7. I know what you mean! I am exactly the same way! Sometimes I just don't care, and that's alright. We're allowed to have "off blog" days. (though I do post all my outfits of the week in a post on Friday, haha)

  8. I love the coral sweater, and I think this looks cute and practical.

I think what you post depends on your philosophy. What are you here for? I am representing what I really wear, not particularly trying to present an idealized picture, so I post both "dressed up" and not. I work in a place where there are no work-appropriate 4.5" platforms (it would be like wearing clown shoes to work). The semi-casual environment gives me more flexibility, but too dressed up also sticks out like a sore thumb.

Blogging did make me feel pressured to add a belt to today's casual outfit, and to wear a woven shirt instead of a tee...

  9. LOVE it. I definitely have 'those days' too. But regardless, you still look amazing, highly styled outfit our not. Keeping it real on the blog is the best! We have enough pressures to perform at work, our blog, our creative outlet shouldn't feel like that. (Although it does hah!)

  10. I still think you look absolutely gorgeous and am glad you shared one of your less "glamourous" look.

  11. Of course you shouldn't only publish the dressed up outfits. This is part of who you are, and since it's your blog, and your style, you should include these looks too.
Everyone has these days more often than you think.
I really like your outfit though. The back detail of the sweater, and the necklace are amazing.

  12. You don't look frumpy at all! I love the look and can totally see how it is more "wearable and everyday." The necklace itself makes it special.

  13. Totally hear you - super comfy, though not at all frumpy! I love the buttons down the back of your tee!

  14. I get that question all the time, and I post less outfits than you do. I do think about it yet it often doesn't totally change what I'm wearing... hard to get going! we are on the same page. love that sweater!

  15. I've had this question too and I would deifnitely say yes. I like I should be more aware of how I look. However, I also don't do daily outfit posts. I only do them once in a while.

  17. Gosh, I think you look great!! I have gotten that question too, and I've definitely had those days. I think it's the honesty that draws people to your blog - along with the cute outfits. I appreciate this post SOOOO much (and for the record, I think this outfit is super cute!).

  18. Oh I can totally relate. I have those days often! In fact, I had more than a few of them this week with the hectic work schedule plus being under the weather. You look just as great dressed down! And happy Friday!

  21. Cute sweater. I like it.

BTW... the honesty in your blog is wonderful. i really enjoy reading it.

I am all to familiar with 'those other days' but that is when I try my hardest not to 'give in'. I feel better when I am 'dressed up' so most days I go with what I planned the night before even when the morning doesn't really warrant it. I would be a liar if I said I never 'give in' but most days I don't and by that first cup of coffee I am usually glad that I didn't.

I think you look lovely, AS ALWAYS....great shirt/necklace combo...and who isn't smitten with a favorite pair of flats...mine are TOMS...and I live in them:)
    Happy week to you!
